A brief history
The roots of this Day can be traced back to 1911, when labour movements protested against the poor working conditions caused by rapid industrialisation. Clara Zetkin, a German activist, proposed the idea, which led to the first celebration in the US and Europe. In 1975, The United Nations officially recognised 8 March as INW’s Day by giving it importance on a global scale.

International Women’s Day Theme for the year
The theme for this year is “Accelerate Action,” which emphasises identifying the strategies and tools that promote women’s advancement in education, careers, and leadership roles. This theme encourages collective efforts from government, organisations, and individuals to remove barriers and to create an environment that gives women equal opportunities. The theme inspires us to go beyond conversations and make real changes happen. This day serves as a reminder that while we have made progress, the struggle for gender equality is not over. This day celebrates women’s achievements and is a commitment to building a fairer future for everyone.
